This award was given in recognition of the Plantation Singers' contribution to the special character of Charleston. Local artist Rhett Thurman has also featured the group in an art series, which can be found on display in the Wells Gallery in downtown Charleston. Lee (BM University of Maryland, MM, and DMA University of South Carolina) is presently the music teacher at Logan Elementary School and founder of the Logan Leopard Steel. He is the principal percussionist with the S.C. Philharmonic Orchestra, co-founder of the Island Close By Steel. He has performed with the Savannah, Augusta, Charlotte, Charleston, Greenville and Atlanta Symphonies as well as Roger Williams, Roger Pemberton, Dick Goodwin, Bert Ligon, The Moody Blues, Ray Charles, Shirley Jones, the Garfield Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps and the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties.
